Shin Splints: A Runner's Nightmare

While you may not be hitting the gym right now, you may be hitting the pavement. Running and jogging are booming during the pandemic, and causing some to experience shin splints, especially if running is a new activity or you are increasing the intensity of your workout.
Shin splints happen when the muscles or tendons along your long shin bone are overworked. You may experience pain, tenderness and swelling in the leg.
Shin splints can be treated with ice, rest and pain relievers. But, if the pain doesn’t go away, our Sports Medicine team can help. They can recommend special footwear and physical therapy treatments so you can gradually return to your favorite activities and avoid re-injury.
