Leapfrog Group awards all six Baptist hospitals with ‘A’ grades this spring

safety-award-200x300(New Braunfels, TX) – The New Braunfels community can be proud to know that when it comes to patient safety, Resolute Baptist Hospital has earned top national rankings again. This is Resolute’s seventh consecutive ‘A’ grade from The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade report card. The rankings were released May 3. The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety, announced the ratings of hospitals across the United States. An ‘A’ rating is a national distinction, which recognizes the hospital’s commitment to delivering safe, high-quality patient care.

Resolute Baptist Hospital, is part of the Baptist Health System in San Antonio, which is the only hospital system in town to receive ‘A’ grades this spring for all six of its hospitals. The grades reflect performance primarily during the height of the COVID pandemic. This national distinction honors Baptist’s achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors.

Mark Bernard, CEO of Resolute Baptist Hospital, said the hospital’s consistent track record for safety recognizes the staff’s dedication to placing their patients’ safety first. “We are very proud of the efforts of our teams that have resulted in this honor,” Bernard said. “This is something our community should be aware of as they count on us to keep them safe while in our care,” he said.

The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization with a 10-year history of assigning letter grades to general hospitals throughout the United States, based on a hospital’s ability to prevent medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Hospital Safety Grade results are based on more than 30 national performance measures and are updated each fall and spring.

“This new update of Hospital Safety Grades shows that, at the national level, we saw deterioration in patient safety with the pandemic,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “But Resolute Baptist Hospital received an ‘A’ despite those challenges. I congratulate all the leaders, staff, volunteers and clinicians who together made that possible,” Binder said.
